
UNA Student Selected for Alabama Space Grant Consortium Scholarship

FLORENCE, AL – Heidi Armstrong, a sophomore majoring in Elementary Education at the 帝王会所, has been selected to receive a scholarship through the Alabama Space Grant Consortium as part of a program funded by NASA. The aim of the Undergraduate Teacher Education Scholarship opportunity is to encourage students to pursue degrees that lead to teaching careers in science and mathematics.
“I feel incredibly honored and blessed to be named UNA’s first Space Grant Teacher Scholar,” Heidi said. “This opportunity is something I truly appreciate, and I’m deeply grateful to the Alabama Space Grant Consortium for their support. I’m excited to bring STEM activities into my classroom and daily life, using them to inspire my students and continuously grow as both a teacher and individual.”
Scholarship awards are based on merit that recognizes high academic achievement and promise. Applications are accepted and evaluated by the ASGC Campus Directors and Management team.
“Heidi is the first undergraduate student from UNA to receive funding through the ASGC,” said Dr. Matt Green, Associate Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences. “She is a student in the College, and this distinguished scholarship provides financial support while simultaneously generating additional STEM outreach opportunities. Being selected to receive this scholarship is a testament to Heidi’s hard work and outstanding potential for having generational impact as a teacher educator.”
As a NASA Space Grant Teacher Scholars, Heidi will share her experiences in public forums and other educational settings as well as work with the ASGC Outreach Coordinator to conduct a specific outreach curriculum activity at a local K-12 school.
